WestConnex

With the massive WestConnex infrastructure project around the corner, Sydney Motorway Corporation sought a new, secure way to connect with both internal employees and the thousands of contractors coming on board for the project. The company engaged cubesys to deliver Microsoft Enterprise Mobility and Security, alongside Office 365 - for controlled, trusted access to data and documents.

Coca-Cola Amatil

In 2015 Microsoft announced Windows 10 as its last Windows Operating System. In fact, Microsoft has made drastic changes to the Windows development, testing and release process – known as ‘Windows as a service’. Today, the Semi-Annual Channel provides a twice-per-year feature update release for Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus, allowing users to gain access to new features, experiences, and integrated security as soon as possible.
While the Microsoft Servicing Model has improved since its inception, a lot of companies are still using their patching process developed for previous Windows versions to service their growing Windows 10/Office 365 ProPlus fleet; or worse are not servicing their environment. This approach can impact security as well as productivity.

cubesys C.O.P.E.: Modern Desktop Servicing offer was used at Coca-Cola Amatil to streamline deployments and address a fragmented Windows 10 version matrix. With a single version of Windows 10 to support the tools and processes were improved to reduce administrative overheads for testing, targeting and deployment.
Through the use of analytics and the deep insights they provide, Coca-Cola Amatil was able to move away from a green button approach (where every application has to be tested on every release before it’s deployed) and was able to adapt to a red button approach (which means updates are delivered unless there is a detected issue).
These changes have increased deployment success and dramatically reduced user outages.
The time to service Windows 10 for the whole fleet has been reduced, allowing Coca-Cola Amatil to provide a secure and productive platform to its users.

Not-For-Profit

Recently cubesys helped a non-for-profit organisation (NFP) in Australia with a large-scale Information Technology project. The NFP has 60,000 members and volunteers who work hard to assist those in need and combat social injustice across Australia. Recognised internationally, operating in 140 countries and having over 800,000 members. Recently, they had to adjust some of their business processes to provide extensive and different services required by the community and realign with new ways of funding for social services. These changes made them see a need to change the way ICT infrastructure supports their business operations.
The fragmented nature of the existing ICT infrastructure has seen the company struggle to provide the levels of ICT support required. They needed to increase their IT department’s maturity to provide a more reliable and better-quality service to the business.
To meet part one of the challenge, the client engaged cubesys to deliver a modern and secure data centre environment based in Microsoft Azure, leveraging the cubesys owned, developed and operated ‘Azurefactory’, our algorithm for the successful adoption and management of Azure, built on DevOps principles using ‘Infrastructure as Code’ (IaC). It is a methodical set of steps that can be used to make calculations, resolve problems and reach decisions whist managing security, compliance, governance and billing in Azure.
cubesys simplified and streamlined the transformation by also introducing C.O.P.E. (Corporate Owned, Personally Enabled), to meet part two of the business objectives. Like every other enterprise, organisations face a continually changing set of employee expectations, a widening skills gap, more diverse teams, and an increasingly complex threat environment. With these pressures, companies must be responsive and modern to meet the changing business needs.
As part of our C.O.P.E. practice, we work on providing seamless communication, multi-device experiences, and keeping the assets safe with intelligent security. Using Microsoft technologies, the cubesys implemented project for the client was designed and executed by protecting user identities, apps, data, and devices

Port Authority

Port Authority (PA) is a state-owned corporation responsible for commercial maritime operations at multiple locations on the country's east coast. They handle the navigation, maintenance, and security needs of commercial shipping, managing Sydney's two world-class international cruise terminals and responds to maritime emergencies.
In 2014, the PA decided to review its technology infrastructure. From the review, Port's initial focus was on upgrading the disaster recovery environment. Also, the organisation faced a two-year deadline to take on IT management for the four other ports, including corporate business software and specialised technologies used in the port operation. After careful consideration, PA decided that the cloud was the best choice. They realised upgrading its on-premises infrastructure would be too time-consuming and costly, and other factors were resulting to the decision. Ian Chilton, Senior Manager, Solutions Development and Services, Port Authority of NSW explains "The main driver was gaining a more flexible and scalable IT architecture." Further explaining "We've gone through a lot of changes including a period of partial privatisation, and we've merged with other ports within the state. So we were really looking for options offering flexibility and scope for change at this stage whilst also making some cost efficiencies."

The PA chose Microsoft partner cubesys to help with the first phase of its transition to the cloud, migrating its disaster recovery and development environments to Azure. "cubesys are experienced with the entire Azure platform and Microsoft products in general," says George Tzikas, Senior IT Infrastructure Specialist at Port Authority of NSW. "We were very impressed with the quality of their engineers and the extra mile they'll go to deliver projects." The organisation had the same confidence in Azure, hence making their move to the cloud platform and seeking cubesys for assistance. Tzikas says, "We looked at multiple hosting vendors when we undertook the tender process. The Azure platform stood out to us because of its flexibility, multiple sites, security, and Microsoft's good partnership with cubesys."
The latest disaster recovery solution is based on Microsoft Operations Management Suite, Azure Site Recovery, and Azure Backup services. cubesys also assisted the PA on installing a development and test environment on Azure, using Azure Site Recovery for migration and creating a self-service portal for developers to manage Azure Virtual Machines. In addition to that, cubesys also took over the PA's disaster recovery process as a managed service.
Chilton further explains "The transition to Microsoft Azure is about moving from a model based on capital expenditure to a system based on operational expenditure. That's what a lot of the industry is doing: moving from a 'we own' to a 'we subscribe' model." Port Authority is looking forward to a more agile environment efficiently providing better services to a mobile workforce of marine pilots and other port personnel. By moving to the cloud, the Port Authority can take on current and future trails more easily.
